Café for Care Partners Cascarones Workshop with Marta Sanchez

Locations Details: In-person
Name of Venue: Woodmere Art Museum
9201 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118
Date and Time: 05/09/2025 10:00 AM
Brief Description of Event: Join us Friday May 9th 10:00AM-11:30AM (EDT) for a special In-Person Café for Care Partners at Woodmere Art Museum

Philadelphia-based mural and multi-media artist Marta Sanchez shares with us the joyful Mexican tradition of “cascarones” in this very special Café for Care Partners hosted at Woodmere Art Museum. Join us in marking the renewal of spring and the lead-up to Mother’s Day!

Marta will guide us in decorating eggshells that she has painstakingly filled with confetti as we use everything from paint to markers to glitter and give free rein to our creativity. In addition to spending some lighthearted time in the company of other care partners, you will go home with the egg(s) you have decorated and, if you choose, participate in the playful tradition of gently cracking the eggshells over the heads of those you love, bringing them good luck as the confetti spills out from the eggshells.

We launched this series of programs especially for the care partners of people living with dementia (usually family members but sometimes close friends playing the same role) to provide engaging, stimulating experiences and relief from the daily grind.

ARTZ Notes Fun in the Sun with MB Singley

Event Registration Link: Register here.
Locations Details: In-person
Name of Venue: Woodmere Art Museum
9201 Germantown Ave, Philadelphia, PA 19118
Date and Time: 07/12/2025 1:30 PM
Brief Description of Event: Join us on July 12th at 1:30 pm (ET) for a special in-person ARTZ Notes program! After you register, we will send you information and instructions.

Join ARTZ Notes curator and lead facilitator Keisha Hutchins Hirlinger and Philadelphia-based multidisciplinary artist and musician MB Singley (an ARTZ Notes favorite!) for a very special in-person ARTZ Notes program at Woodmere Art Museum.

Summer is here and the time is always right for dancing in the streets! This workshop is all about having fun in the sun while singing along to some of your favorite tunes. We’ll take a stroll on the boardwalk, and get some ice cream…or maybe dip our toes in the sand after we do a little surfing! All you need for this workshop is a willingness to have a good time, so grab your sunglasses and I’ll meet you on the sunny side of the street!

MB explores the human condition through story, song and audience engagement. She has self-produced three albums of original music and she can be heard on John Legend’s Grammy-nominated debut album, Get Lifted. In 2020, MB premiered her one-woman show about growing up as a black woman in the United States, Turn, at the Kimmel Center.

ARTZ Notes invites you to come together with other participants to listen to music, make your own, and engage with each other and the performers. ARTZ Notes offers music and experiences as diverse as our participants. We are exploring different options including facilitating live performances paired with conversations, interactive improvisation and sing-alongs, and conversations and movement around pre-recorded music of all genres.
